St. Ephraem, 4th Century Educator
on being a Student of Theology

God's word is a manifold treasure with different facets and colors. In it you see what is suitable to your needs and your present capacity to understand.

The Lord has given His message in many ways so each person can see in it what is suitable for them.  Within His words, He has buried manifold treasures so that in seeking them out, you will grow rich in undestanding.

When you have discovered some part of this treasure, do not think you have exhausted what is in God's word.  This is all you were able to find for now and a far greater wealth remains.

Be glad when you are overwhelmed by the wealth of things to understand. God's word is like a spring of water at which you can repeatedly quench your thirst without ever exhausting the spring.  If you persevere at that source of inspiration, you will understand ever more over time.

Be thankful for the part of that understanding you receive; it is your share. The rest is a heritage you are leaving for those to come.
