Greed as Averice, Ambition & Devotion
Greed is a driving force in evolution that serves having the maximum number of descendants.
In nonhumans, greed is amoral.
In humans, greed takes many forms. Some are socially approved and some are condemned as evil, depending on the society and the circumstances.
Greed using violence, cruelty and deception are condemned within the social group.
Greed using violence, cruelty and deception are lauded and rewarded, when used profitably against other social groups.
With humans, greed can take many forms including averice, ambition and devotion.
Ambition that benefits the social group is valued (and often envied). Families want their own members to be ambitious, and want ambitious men for spouses.
Social groups want devotion in those who serve them which can be greed for the recognition that comes from perfection in work such as caregivers, doctors, pastors and police.
An unsatisfied need is craved. What is craved enough, for long enough, can create obcessive greed, sometimes for an obtainable or acceptable substitute. Some who were unloved as children obcessively seek love from the public. Some who were unappreciated as children, obcessively seek success.
Think over the manifestations of evolution's greed instinct in your life in its forms if devotion, ambition and averice. Which are you trying to fill directly, and which with substitutes. Greed in its lesser intensity and in some of its manifestations andA substitutions are essential in life.
